ROASTERIA ORCHARD is a coffee roaster in the Southern Alps of Yamanashi that only handles carefully selected specialty coffees from around the world. This distinctive shop is housed in a renovated black container, and Shin Sano is the barista and roaster there. While traveling around the world, he was fascinated by the power of coffee to connect people regardless of their status, and entered the world of coffee. After training at a coffee shop on the West Coast, he also spent time on a coffee bean farm in Central America. He offers people an experience that goes beyond just "delicious," by serving coffee that is not only delicious, but also brings to mind the passion of the producers and the scenery of the place where it is produced.

"CR First!! Asia's Red Devils x Sphere Roast"

#
The beans I chose for my 2nd Season roasting event are Papua New Guinea / Natural.

This was the first time these beans were featured at a CR Roast event, but in blind cupping, they were the only beans that stood up to high-class varieties and innovation processes, from the impact of the dry taste to the after taste!

The variety is a mixed variety of Typica, but the cherries that the Collbran family let ripen slowly at high altitude have an astonishing sugar content, and the sweetness is reflected in the liquid!

After a careful natural process, the "red fruit" is transformed into a wild and lustrous "red devil" by my Sphere Roast, ready to seduce you.

Why not try experiencing the "Red Devils" for yourself?

A precious coffee that lets you feel the potential of New Guinea

In Papua New Guinea, an island nation in the South Pacific, coffee cultivation is said to have begun in the eastern part of the island in the late 1800s when it was a British colony. Coffee production accounts for 1% of the world's total, but it is the country's main agricultural export.

Currently, high-quality coffee with a unique aroma is grown in the central highlands of New Guinea, including the Eastern Highlands and Western Highlands provinces. The Eastern Highlands province in particular is the most prosperous coffee growing region, with ideal conditions for coffee cultivation, including sufficient altitude, extreme temperature differences, and abundant rainfall.

農園の2代目Nicole Colbran, the second generation of the farm

This time we will be introducing coffee from Baroida Farm, the Colbran family farm that has been growing coffee for the longest time in the Eastern Highlands. The farm was started in 1960 by Ben Colbran after he purchased land from the natives. It has been growing coffee for over 50 years and is currently run by his son Nicole and grandson Chris.

The farm grows the following varieties: Typica , Mundo Novo, Caturra and Arusha.
Typica was brought from Jamaica and is widely cultivated in the southeastern part of New Guinea. It is now a rare variety worldwide due to the difficulty of cultivation. Arusha is a derivative of Bourbon or Typica variety discovered in the same area of Tanzania, but is only found in Tanzania and New Guinea.

Although Papua New Guinea is rich in nature, its production facilities still lack, but this batch of coffee has a unique taste of the variety and the potential of the growing region. Another point is that the selection method is natural, which is rare for Papua New Guinea coffee.

Cupping Comments

A winey type of coffee with strong fermentation. It has a heavy and heavy sourness with a strong flavor, but you can also feel the plum flavor behind the sourness, making it light and easy to drink. It has flashy and impressive features. Recommended for those who want to try a different kind of coffee than usual.

It's possible because it's CROWD ROASTER
