Geisha from Esmeralda Farm, where the lots differ even on the harvest date.

At CROWD ROASTER , we are currently running a special project to have some of Japan's leading roasters roast "Esmeralda Special," the highest quality brand from Esmeralda Farm, which is synonymous with Panamanian Geisha !

Following the first release, " Geisha Natural Montagna 2SN x Yoshiyuki Nakamura ", the second release, " Geisha Washed Trapiche 65AS x Ishii Yasuo ", the third release is now available, " Geisha Natural Montagna 1SN x Tomomichi Morifuji "!

In this article, we will provide you with more information about this third lot of Esmeralda Geisha .

The plots of the Esmeralda farm are divided into small pieces.

This lot, "Montaña 1SN," is the name of a plot in Cañas Verdes, one of the three farms within Esmeralda that cultivate Geisha grapes.

Caña Verde has its cultivation areas at an altitude of nearly 2,000m, which is higher than the other two farms. Although there is a dry season of 3 to 4 months, the air is cool and this unique microclimate produces Geisha with different characteristics.

Half of Caña Verde was included in the land when the Peterson family, owners of the Esmeralda Farm, first acquired the Esmeralda Farm in 1967. At that time, the farm was used for beef cattle and later for dairy cattle. However, several small producers had been growing coffee in the surrounding area for some time. It wasn't until the 1990s that the Peterson family began full-scale coffee cultivation.

After Geisha was rediscovered, the Peterson family expanded Geisha production by purchasing small tracts of land surrounding the original Caña Verde estate. Since then, many of the award-winning Esmeralda Geisha lots have come from the hills of Caña Verde.

Montagna's name became known around the world at the auction

Caña Verde is divided into 12 plots, which are scattered across the slopes (although some are adjacent, of course) rather than being one large farm area.

Each plot has a slightly different climate, temperature, sunlight, and soil, which gives each plot a unique flavor. Each plot is several hectares in size, but this lot, Montaña, is only 0.5 hectares in size.

This small Montagna region became known around the world thanks to a certain event.
It was this Montaña natural lot that was sold at the Best of Panama (BOP) international trade fair in 2017 for $601 per pound, the highest price in the world at the time.

This lot was born from the famous Montaña. As you would expect from Esmeralda Farm, which is managed thoroughly, the data is also shown in detail.

In this way, not only is the coffee high quality and rich flavor, but it is also the thorough management that ensures traceability and the commitment to making detailed information available to the public that makes Esmeralda Farm's coffee special.

Furthermore, this lot has a different harvest date than the first batch, "Montaña 2SN."
The coffee cherries are at different ripeness levels, which results in different flavors.

In order to manage the production of such micro lots, which means dividing lots not only by harvest region but also by harvest date, extremely strict control of the production process is required.
However, Esmeralda Farm has been working on lot separation since it first began cultivating Geisha , and their long experience has made it possible for them to manage micro lots to this extent.

It can be said that Esmeralda Farm not only ensures quality, but also has created a system to firmly support it.
