CROWD ROASTER is an app that allows you to request some of Japan's leading roasters to roast your favorite coffee.
As the only online platform where you can directly request roasts and communicate with roasters, it is enjoyed by both participating roasters and users.
Currently, 24 roasters are participating. They are all highly skilled and popular, including the Japan Roasting Competition Champion and roasteries that are visited by fans not only from Japan but from all over the world.
In this project, we interview the participating roasters about CROWD ROASTER .
Our guest this time is Kihara Musashi the owner and roaster of WOODBERRY COFFEE .
WOODBERRY COFFEE was founded as a specialty coffee shop in Tokyo over 10 years ago and has since expanded to include locations in Shibuya, Yoga, Daikanyama, Ogikubo, Manabu Manabu , and Kamakura.
They featured CROWD ROASTER in issue 22 of the independent coffee magazine "STANDART," and they are an active participant in CROWD ROASTER , regularly holding roasting events.
This time, we spoke to Musashi about the appeal of CROWD ROASTER and what he expects from it.
A service that allows you to enjoy the essence of coffee
--What was your honest impression when you first heard about CROWD ROASTER ?
Musashi : I think there are a lot of different coffee services out there, but when I heard that this service was focused on roasters and raw beans, I thought it was an amazing service (laughs).
——That's an amazing service...(laughs) What specifically did you find interesting about it?
Musashi : I think it's interesting to see different roasters roasting different kinds of raw beans. As many roasters as there are, there are different approaches to roasting. I think it's interesting that you can enjoy the flavor of the ingredients in the coffee and the unique draw of single origin coffee because you can enjoy the same beans through different roasting methods. It's a service that you can learn from, enjoy in different ways, and enjoy the essence of (coffee).

--What was your reason for participating?
Musashi : I felt the passion of the people who run the service. I felt their passion for coffee, so I thought I would like to work with them as a roaster. That's what made me decide to participate.
What do you expect from this service in the future?
Musashi : I want this service to become more and more popular with our customers. Many different people can order, and those who order the same item can share the taste with each other!
I hope it spreads more widely across the country.
I also think it would be more fun if the roaster could suggest brewing recipes, like, "Please brew this batch using this recipe."
I think it would be more interesting if the service could become one that allows more interaction between roasters and users!
