New crop! Top grade Kenya Kangocho AA roaster tasting set now on sale!

2024.11.14

A new tasting set featuring three roasters' blends is now available at a special discounted price!

CROWD ROASTER is renowned for its high-quality Kenyan coffee, and this year, the fruity new crop, "[KKGW] Kenya/Kangocho Factory/ SL28 , SL34, Batian/Washed," has arrived!
This is a carefully selected blend from the few AA grade beans available domestically, chosen by CROWD ROASTER 's green bean specialist.
We wanted to add this to CROWD ROASTER 's regular lineup, but the quantity was too small, so we had to give up on that idea.
This is a limited-quantity sale for a limited time only, so be sure to check it out and don't miss out!

A Kenyan wine with just the right amount of weight, juicy acidity, and above all, just "sweet"!

This coffee is processed at the Cangocho Factory, owned by the Gicanda Agricultural Cooperative in Nyeri Province, Central Province.

The parent organization, the Gikanda Producers' Cooperative, owns three factories: Kangocho, Gichasaini, and Ndaroini. The cooperative was established in 1996. The Gikanda cooperative has over 3,000 members, more than one-third of whom belong to the Kangocho factory.
As a cooperative, we have obtained RA and FLO certifications, making us a sustainable cooperative. However, since this particular lot was not purchased as certified beans, we have not obtained a certificate for it.

The processing involves 12 hours of dry fermentation followed by gravity separation while rinsing in a waterway. Drying is done by sun-drying on African beds for 14 days. Lot 16GF0002 means that it was the second batch to be finished at Gikanda Farmers Mill, in the 16th week since October.

This coffee (green beans) is of the highest grade in Kenya, AA, with a screen size of 17-18 (approximately 7mm) or larger. You can experience the exceptional acidity, sweetness, and clarity that are characteristic of top-quality Kenyan coffee.
Thanks to the meticulous work of the producers and the Kangocho Factory, this coffee boasts a firm sweetness, fruity flavor, and a bright, refreshing acidity that is clearly discernible at any roast level.

A tasting comparison by three roasters

To commemorate the launch of our new blend, "[KKGW] Kenya/Kangocho Factory/ SL28 , SL34, Batian/Washed," we have prepared a tasting set, "African Cruise Kenya Edition 2," featuring coffees roasted by three different roasters.
CROWD ROASTER management team immediately tried the Kenyan coffee that arrived, and what's particularly striking about this batch is its bright acidity!

This Kenyan coffee has a strong acidic structure and is juicy and bright. It has flavors of plum and orange, and a clean finish. It's a Kenyan coffee full of the typical acidity characteristics of the variety, and it's the kind of coffee you'll want to keep drinking.

This time, with the hope that you can experience a part of the charm of this brand, we had three highly skilled roasters roast the beans for us. The roast levels are available in three stages: light, medium, and dark, so you can enjoy the differences between each level of roasting.

Light roast, by Tomomichi Morifuji (RED POISON)
Morifuji -san's shop doesn't carry Kenyan coffee beans. However, he enjoys roasting CROWD ROASTER 's Kenyan beans every year, so we asked him to do it again this year.

Comment from Morifuji san:
Kenya Nyeri Kangocho boasts a flavor profile of cherry, berry, floral, and brown sugar, with a vibrant fruity and sweet taste that makes you want to keep drinking.

Medium roast by Tanaka Yoshiya ( SPARK COFFEE ROASTERS )
Congratulations on your participation in the recent Japan Barista Championship. Yoshiya , you are at the forefront of barista technology and among the best in Japan, both in roasting coffee beans and as a barista. I was excited to see how you would prepare the Kenyan coffee this time, so I asked you to help me.

Comment from Yoshiya :
This time, the order was for a medium roast, so we roasted it slightly darker than our usual Spark Kenya.
It has a sweetness reminiscent of brown sugar at its core, with a juicy acidity like that of a Minneola orange.
Combined with its pleasantly weighty texture, the overall impression is that of a very sweet Kenyan coffee.

Dark roast by Manabu Narita ( Marley )
Narita san, who has recently been making a name for himself at CROWD ROASTER when it comes to dark roasts, roasted the beans to the absolute limit without losing the unique characteristics of each blend. Even those who don't usually like dark roasts might find themselves discovering something new.

Comment from Mr. Narita :
This Kenyan coffee, being a new crop, had a good moisture content, and the green beans themselves gave a very robust impression.
While it's difficult to bring out the flavors when roasting dark beans using the washed method, this coffee has a robust dark roast coffee character with hints of caramel and dark chocolate!

We have carefully considered various factors such as the coffee brand, roaster, and roasting level to create this set.
Enjoy the subtle differences in flavor of Kenyan coffee, depending on the roaster and roasting level!
The product name, African Cruise, reflects our expectations for the brands that CROWD ROASTER will be searching for in the future.
We have more new crops arriving this year. Don't miss out on the new CROWD ROASTER lineup.
