Criteria when choosing equipment (2) Drip pot version

With the recent coffee boom, various extraction methods are increasing.
Along with this, a large number of coffee equipment have come out, and I think it is becoming difficult to choose the right equipment.
For such people, this project will tell you the criteria when choosing equipment.

In the previous article , I talked about "drippers", and in the second article I will talk about "drip pots".

Differences depending on the thickness of the spout

What is particularly noteworthy about the differences in drip pots is the difference in taste depending on the thickness of the spout.
A tool called a drip pot basically has a narrow-mouthed shape, but there are two types: narrow-mouthed ones and wide-mouthed ones.

Advantages of narrow mouth pot

・Stable extraction

With a narrow-mouthed pot, no matter how you tilt the pot, the hot water will only fall as wide as the mouth of the pot, allowing you to brew more stably.

Since you can always control a constant amount of hot water, there is little blurring and stable extraction is possible.

・The pot is light

Narrow mouth pots tend to be lighter in weight than wide mouth pots.

The first thing that bothers me about hand drip brewing is that the pot is surprisingly heavy.
Once you get used to it, it's not too heavy, but for those just starting out, it can be surprisingly heavy.

If the drip pot is heavy, you won't be able to control the pot as you intended, resulting in unstable extraction.

For these reasons, narrow-mouthed pots are recommended for those who want to start hand dripping.

Advantages of thick pot

・Free extraction possible

The biggest advantage of a wide-mouthed pot is that it allows for free extraction.
Coffee does not always have to be brewed the same way.
It is necessary to change the extraction approach depending on the brand and environment at the time.

If you use a narrow-mouthed pot, the range of approaches will be limited, but if you use a wide-mouthed pot, the spout is wide, so depending on the tilt of the pot, you can create thick or thin water, which greatly expands the range of approaches. .

A wide pot allows you to bring out the maximum flavor of the brand depending on the environment at the time.

What did you think?

Since each drip pot has a different grip and a different weight, I think it's a good idea to try out different pots.

We recommend using a drip pot that is most comfortable for you.
Ideally, when brewing, you should be able to brew in a relaxed state.
In order to extract in this condition, we recommend using a drip pot that is comfortable to use.

Of course, as you use it more and more, you will get used to it and will be able to create the ideal drip pot, but why not start by looking for the drip pot that you are most comfortable using?
