STORY

Geisha , nurtured by the mist of Boquete, Panama. Longboard Coffee expresses the rhythm of the land and nature.

In the mountains of Boquete, Panama, there is a small coffee producer called Longboard Coffee.

Boquete is a world-renowned producer of Panama Geisha coffee. Among them, Longboard is not only a farm that produces rare Geisha , but also a place that has continued to create its own unique coffee while cherishing the rhythm of nature and the individuality of the land.

The founder is Justin Boudeman. A surfer and a deep love of nature, he viewed the farm not as a place to efficiently manage, but as a living environment where climate, soil, trees, microorganisms, and human judgment all intertwine.

Justin passed away on August 30, 2025, but the philosophy he established at Longboard continues to be carried on by a family-centered team.

The clarity and depth you perceive in Longboard's coffee are deeply connected to this philosophy.

Three farms spread across Bokete

Longboard consists of three farms located around Boquete in the Chiriqui Department of western Panama.

One example is Misty Mountain, one of Longboard's iconic farms. As its name suggests, it's located in a mountainous environment shrouded in mist, where the cool air, humidity, and volcanic soil characteristic of Boquete come together. This farm, which cultivates the vibrant and transparent qualities typical of Geisha , is an indispensable part of understanding Longboard's worldview.

Another location is Windy Ridge, situated on a west-facing slope towards Volcano Baru. Influenced by wind and sunshine, it cultivates Geisha that possess sweetness, tropical notes, and a gorgeous aroma reminiscent of jasmine. This environment, different from Misty Mountain, gives Longboard coffee yet another distinct character.

Then there's Fennario in the Palmira area. This farm not only serves as a cultivation site but also plays a crucial role as a base for processing, drying, and laboratory work. Taking advantage of the relatively dry climate, it's a central hub supporting Longboard's quality-building efforts, serving as a place to prepare the coffee after harvest.

Even within the Longboard coffee family, each farm has different altitudes, orientations, and climatic conditions. Instead of trying to homogenize these differences, Longboard embraces them as unique characteristics of each lot. That's the Longboard approach to coffee making.

Reading the rhythms of nature: The Longboard philosophy!

Longboard's distinguishing feature lies in its approach of expressing the unique characteristics of the land and grape variety in the clearest possible form, rather than creating flavors through aggressive processing.

In recent years, specialty coffee has increasingly adopted approaches that design unique flavors through fermentation and processing techniques. While this in itself expands the possibilities of coffee, what Longboard has always valued is not making the coffee feel overly influenced by human intervention.

Our goal isn't to create a flavor, but to create the conditions necessary for that flavor to emerge.

Just as a surfer reads the waves and wind, Justin meticulously observed the climate of the farm, the condition of the trees, their ripeness, and the timing of the harvest. Rather than trying to control nature, he listened to the changes and made decisions accordingly. This attitude is at the heart of Longboard's coffee making.

At Longboard, drawing on organic and biodynamic principles, we avoid Manabu interventions and prioritize wild yeasts, natural fermentation, and the unique micro-environments of each farm. This distinctive approach is also known as "Wildynamic."

It's a philosophy that embraces the unique characteristics of each year, region, and batch of coffee, rather than trying to produce a uniform product.

Instead of leaving things to nature, observe carefully and make necessary judgments. However, ensure that those judgments do not become overly assertive within the cup.

The quiet tension and serene impression one feels in Longboard's Geisha may stem from this aesthetic sensibility.

Viewing coffee as an art form

Justin reportedly viewed Longboard's coffee lots as "organic art."

They give each batch a name and combine it with artwork, colors, and even music to match its flavor. This reflects their approach of viewing coffee not merely as an agricultural product, but as an expression born from the interplay of land, season, and human sensibilities.

This way of thinking aligns with the values that CROWD ROASTER cherishes.

At CROWD ROASTER , we view coffee not merely as a beverage, but as an art form. Each coffee has its own unique character, stemming from the individuality of the green beans cultivated by the producers, the roaster's expertise in interpreting those characteristics, and finally, the experience of the person who savors each cup.

Coffee production isn't complete just at the farm.
Roasting alone is not enough to complete the process.

Production, refining, roasting, extraction, and the moment of drinking.
All of these elements come together to create a single experience.

The art that Longboard is trying to express on the farm and the art that CROWD ROASTER is trying to deliver through roasting—what kind of landscape will emerge when these two converge? That is the great significance of introducing this coffee today.

The philosophy of Longboard has been carried on by the family and team, led by Noi and Sophia, even after Justin's passing. They are not only preserving what their father built, but are also constantly thinking about how to nurture Longboard into what it is today.

Respect for nature.
An attitude that respects the unique characteristics of the land.
An aesthetic sense that avoids making one feel overly influenced by human intervention.

As long as that core remains, Longboard coffee will continue to have its own unique presence.

CROWD ROASTER will soon be releasing the 2026 new crop of Longboard Misty Mountain Geisha Natural.

The green coffee beans that arrived already exuded an incredible sense of quality. They possessed the vibrant character typical of Panama Geisha , the clear, crisp impression characteristic of Misty Mountain, and the natural expression that Longboard has always valued. Their potential was clearly evident even at the green bean stage.

From here on, it's up to the roaster's intuition and skill to bring out its charm.

Longboard's art cultivated on the farm.
CROWD ROASTER 's art in every step of the roasting process.
And the scenery that is created within the minds of those who experience it.

Please look forward to the cup of coffee that will be created when each of these art pieces comes together.
